From Realscreen:
The deadline for the latest round of America’s National Endowment for the Humanities Bridging Cultures through Film: international initiative is approaching in June .
The Bridging Cultures through Film: International initiative is intended to “spark Americans’ engagement with the wider world through the exploration of countries and cultures across the United States,” says the NEH.
Films that examine critical issues in ethics, history or religion as viewed through an international perspective; tackle topics that transcend the notion of nationhood; offer biographies of foreign leaders, writers, artists or historical figures or that explore the history and culture of a region, community or culture outside of the U.S. are in the ballpark of what the NEH is looking for. Films have to range in length from a stand-alone broadcast hour to a feature-length documentary.
Applicants should enlist U.S.-based and non-U.S.-based scholars and/or work with an international media team.
Development grants of up to US$75,000 and production monies of up to $800,000 are available. Any U.S. nonprofit organization with IRS 501(c)(3) tax exempt status is eligible. Grants are not awarded to individuals; independent producers who wish to apply should partner with an eligible organization, which can act as fiscal sponsor.
The deadline for applications is June 29, 2011. Recipients will be notified in April 2012.
