Pitching is the art of verbally presenting a project for finance. The ability to tell your story articulately and present yourself as a filmmaker with whom a financier would like to work is essential.
This talk covers how to condense your story for pitching purposes, how to present yourself as a filmmaker, how to mention marketing possibilities to the interested investor, how pitching a doc differs from pitching a drama and what to expect at the end of a meeting.
Praxis Interim Director, Melanie Friesen, has had plenty of experience pitching during her years as a literary agent in London, as an executive at MGM/UA UK, at Cineplex Odeon in Los Angeles and at Scorsese Productions in New York.
She lectures on pitching in Vancouver and has also done so in Luxembourg, Hungary, Wales, Denmark, Mexico and the Republic of Georgia.
After Melanie’s lecture, she will be available for private follow-up sessions on Thursday, June 23. Anyone who wants to practice their pitch according to what they learned in this workshop can choose a 20-minute slot between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to pitch to Melanie in her Praxis office, Room 3295, SFU, 149 W. Hastings. Sign up for this opportunity will be done on June 20, after the pitching workshop.
This workshop is free of charge.
No pre-registration required; seating will be first-come, first served.
