John Walker Productions in on a roll with A Drummers Dream. The film opens theatrically in Vancouver (Vancity Theatre) on Friday Febrary 4. Walker will be in attendance for Q&A the opening weekend.

This riveting film about seven of the world’s greatest drummers garnered critical acclaim at festivals across the country, earning a Top Ten Audience Favourite award at Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival and was one of the Top 10 Canadian Films at the Vancouver International Film Festival. The film also screened at the Atlantic Film Festival, Montreal’s, RIDM and the Havana Jazz Festival, Cuba. Currently the film is palying at FIPA (international Festival of Audiovisual Programs) – Biarritz, France where it is in competition in the Performing Arts genre.
“I wanted to explore not only the dynamic craftsmanship of these master musicians, but also the life lessons that can be gleaned from passion and dedication such as theirs,” says director John Walker. “For me it was a master-class in the joy of life”.
“The film explores the power of music to inspire and unite,” says Giovanni Hidalgo, one of the most sought-after conga players in the world. “We are drummers, yes, but we are also passionate human beings. I think our stories engage viewers because of the strength, love and faith they convey.”

Set at an idyllic music camp for emerging musicians in rural Ontario, A Drummer’s Dream focuses on a rare assembly of some of the most versatile drummers in the world, including Nasyr Abdul Al-Khabyyr, Dennis Chambers, Kenwood Dennard, Horacio “El-Negro” Hernandez, Giovanni Hidalgo, Mike Mangini and Raul Rekow, awe-inspiring musicians who have backed up the likes of Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, Carlos Santana and now – each other.
