Three of the four Festival sections are open to Canadian productions:Venezia 68 (International Competition), Out of Competition andOrizzonti.

Created in 2004 and dedicated to “new trends” in world cinema, Orizzontihas taken a major new step in the recent years with a line of programming devoted to new tendencies in world cinema without distinction of genre or duration, presenting works that reflect the continual redefinition of filmmaking within the whole range of contemporary visual expression. The section is open to films of all formats (full-length, medium-length, short-length).

Each debut feature film selected in one of the sections of the Venice Festival (Official Mostra, Venice Days or The Critics’ week) is eligible for the “Luigi De Laurentiis” Venice Award, a USD 100,000 cash award divided between the director and producer.
