Get your documentary or interactive project funded by the best financiers out there – EVERYONE.
Pitch to get £1500 towards your film…or more!
For our June 2011 festival Sheffield Doc/Fest will again be holding a crowd funding pitch, where 5 top international projects will compete to win a pot of money crowd funded from Doc/Fest’s delegates and community. If you’re interested in entering, now’s the time. We want to hear from anyone anywhere in the world making a documentary or interactive media project who is interested in crowd funding some of their finance. You can be at any stage of development, production or post-production, from anywhere in the world, and your project can be of any length or format or on any platform as long as it has a factual basis.
If selected, you’ll pitch on stage at Sheffield Doc/Fest’s crowdfunding day on Saturday June 11th. You’ll need to impress the audience with your outreach and community engagement plan as much as your project’s content – we’re looking for films and projects that understand how to build and maintain fans, followers and communities.
In 2010, we raised £1500, won in the pitch by Stephen Burton’s This is Me. This year, we hope to raise even more on IndieGoGo, where the Doc/Fest crowdfunding project will again be hosted.
How to enter
Please email Charlie Phillips at charlie@sidf.co.uk with the following:
– A short synopsis or treatment about your project
– A brief teaser or trailer clip (hosted on a video site, your own site, or downloadable from a file sharing site – PLEASE DO NOT SEND DISCS)
– CV or biography for the key members of the production team
– A 250 word account of your strategy for raising finance from the crowd/community
– A list of funding rewards you could offer for supporters of your project (see our 2010 campaign page for some examples of rewards on IndieGoGo)
If you already have a crowd funding campaign set up, you can send us the link to this in place of the above, as long as it covers all the above points.
The deadline for entering is Friday March 25th – no late entries will be accepted
What happens next?
We’ll select 5 projects who will we combined into a single Doc/Fest project on IndieGoGo, for which we will all collectively raise finance towards a goal to be agreed between all pitchers. The chosen projects will pitch live on stage at Doc/Fest to a panel including representatives of crowd funding sites, alternative distribution/funding experts, and outreach strategists. The audience at the pitch on Saturday June 11th will vote for a winner, who will receive the overall pot of money pledged by Doc/Fest delegates. The pitch will take place on Saturday 11th June, and you will need to have a delegate pass to take part in it.
After the pitch, all projects should setup their own individual crowdfunding pages, so that everyone can raise further money.
